Applying online to UB is fast, easy, and secure. Just choose either the Common Application or the State University of New York (SUNY) application. A $40 non-refundable fee is required with each option.
Please complete and submit only one:
The Common Application allows students to apply to any of the nearly 400 selective member colleges and universities using a single application.
The SUNY application allows students to apply to several SUNY institutions with one application. If you apply using the SUNY application, you are required to also complete the SUNY supplemental. Once you complete both parts of the SUNY application, you can check its status here: Application Status.
For fall semester admission, submit an application early in the fall of your senior year of high school. Consideration for UB’s merit-based scholarship awards is based on application materials received by December 31. Scholarship notices are mailed, along with admission offers, beginning in early March.
The university’s Early Decision option is designed for freshman who are committed to attending UB if accepted. Early Decision applications must be submitted by November 1; notification of acceptance will occur by December 15. Accepted Early Decision candidates are expected to withdraw applications to other colleges and universities and to accept UB's offer no later than January 15 for fall admission.
You should indicate your intended major on the application form. In general, the admissions consideration process is currently the same for all majors, including students with “undeclared” majors. Engineering majors do receive an additional review to ascertain their readiness in key science and math areas. Admission to the departments of dance, music, and music theatre require an audition. Intended theatre majors with professional experience are also required to audition. The departments of architecture, business administration, engineering, exercise science, nuclear medicine technology, and occupational therapy admit freshmen directly to the major. All other departments evaluate students for admission during their second year of study at UB.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required to ensure that a student’s language skills don’t prevent them from successfully completing university-level courses in the United States. In general, the TOEFL is required of applicants whose native language is not English, and if any portion of their high school studies was completed in a non-English speaking country. Additionally, students who speak English as a second language and have SAT critical reading scores below 380 are encouraged to take the TOEFL.
