Buffalo and Western New York
Buffalo, New York: The city with something for everyone.
Buffalo is New York State's second largest city. The region's nearly one million inhabitants enjoy a pleasant, temperate climate, the highest percentage of summer sunshine of any region in New York State, and year-round outdoor recreation. USA Today named Buffalo the winner of its 2001 "City with a Heart" contest, underscoring what area residents past and present already knew: Buffalo is a warm, diverse, lively city and an immensely livable and lovable hometown.
The Buffalo-Niagara region (which also includes nearby Niagara Falls) offers the attractions and conveniences of a major urban center along with the friendliness and livability of a small town. Professional sports teams, world class museums, summer and winter outdoor recreation, and a vibrant entertainment scene are just a few of the reasons Buffalo is a great place to live, work, and pursue higher education.
Location and Accessibility
Buffalo is about one-hour by air from some of the nation's major metropolitan areas, including Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and an hour-and-a-half drive to Toronto. In fact, nearly 75 percent of the population of North America can be reached within an eight-hour road trip. Easily accessible by air, train, bus, or car, the Buffalo-Niagara region is also known as the "20-minute city," offering ease and accessibility for commuters and businesses that take advantage of the regions rich economic infrastructure.
