North and South Campuses

Two campuses: suburban and city

UB has two campuses, North and South, each with distinct personalities. The North Campus, where UB's core academic programs are located, is in Amherst, a Buffalo suburb. It opened in the early 1970s and now has more than 100 buildings. However, with the current construction of new student apartments as well as new state-of-the-art academic buildings, our North Campus continues to grow.

South Campus, located three miles south of North Campus in a northeast residential section of Buffalo dates from the early 20th century and is the university's original site. More traditional looking, with its ivy-covered buildings and bell tower, South Campus is where you'll find the Schools of Architecture and Planning, Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Dental Medicine, Public Health and Health Professions, and Nursing. Regular bus transportation, a 10-minute ride, shuttles students between the two campuses, and from South Campus travelers can take Buffalo's Metro Rail service all the way downtown.
