History BA/Social Studies Adolescence Education EdM
The History education program is an accelerated, combined degree program that leads to a History BA and a Social Studies Education EdM within five years.
Students in History courses explore what happened and why through many perspectives—political, economic, cultural or intellectual, religious or social. They analyze historians' debates from texts, oral testimony, and other media. The coursework in the first three years of the program will provide deep knowledge of history. In addition, students take select education courses, which include experiential components, giving them the opportunity to experience the nuances of the teaching profession. The graduate portion of the program will continue to build understanding of history, as well as provide the skills to become an effective teacher. The final year in the program includes a residency that allows students to co-teach alongside an expert teacher. The opportunity to experience the inner workings of the classroom from fall setup to end-of-year grading prepares students to enter the teaching profession with expertise and confidence.
At the end of the five-year program, successful students will receive recommendation for New York State Initial and Professional Teacher Certification.
