Nursing BS - Accelerated

Beginning in the Summer 2023, the Accelerated Nursing Program will transition to a Concept-Based Curriculum (CBC) as a method of delivering ever-expanding amounts of content in an easier way. Students will be able to use higher order thinking to make clear connections between theory and practice. The CBC will also improve graduates’ ability to translate knowledge to practice in multiple settings when caring for patients at various stages of wellness and illness across the lifespan. Upper division coursework will include an emphasis on nursing practice, health promotion, informatics, evidence-based research, health systems policy and care coordination across populations.

The accelerated second-degree option offers the undergraduate nursing curriculum as an intensive, full time, 12 month program designed for students who have already completed a bachelor's degree in a field outside of nursing. Students selecting this option will complete all required courses in the nursing major in a sequence that provides accelerated progression and, upon completion, are prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a registered nurse. During their study, ABS students will also be given the opportunity to accrue up to three graduate credit hours, which later may be applied to a graduate program in a nursing specialty area of interest, giving students a head start toward a graduate degree.
