Spanish BA/Spanish Adolescence Education EdM

The Spanish education program is an accelerated, combined degree program that that leads to a Spanish BA and a Spanish Education EdM in five years.

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) is home to the Spanish program. Our faculty and Instructors teach using an interdisciplinary perspective, reflected in the opportunity to explore the Hispanic world through language and literature, linguistics, film and media studies, and the intellectual history of the Spanish-speaking world. Spanish students are strongly encouraged to study abroad for a summer, semester, or full year. There are quality affordable SUNY programs throughout the Spanish-speaking world. The coursework in the first three years provides a deep understanding of the Spanish language and cultures. Select education courses give students opportunity to experience the nuances of the teaching profession.

The graduate portion of the program will continue to develop Spanish language competence and communicative strategies to become an effective teacher. The final year in the program includes a one-year residency that allows students to co-teach alongside an expert teacher. The opportunity to experience the inner workings of the classroom from fall setup to end-of-year grading prepares students to enter the teaching profession with expertise and confidence.

At the end of the five-year program, successful students will receive recommendation for New York State Initial and Professional Teacher Certification.
